The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) supports excellence in British craftsmanship.
Grandey’s Place is a philanthropic venture created to help sustain and nurture the UK’s Heritage Crafts, many of which are under threat of extinction* with craftspeople themselves often struggling with overly priced but poor working conditions.
In 2019, with the support of The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust and Heritage Crafts, Grandey’s Place began welcoming craftspeople to our light-filled studios set within the tranquil Hertfordshire countryside. Since then, our craftspeople have gone on to complete prestigious commissions for the Royal Family, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Albert Hall and more.
Our 20 beautifully-appointed studios range in size from 250 sq ft to 1000 sq ft and are often offered with generous subsidies to those in need of support.
Each of our resident craftspeople have painstakingly trained and educated themselves to the highest levels of their respective craft. Grandey’s Place offers them an important sense of community and exposure to an eclectic mix of colleagues approaching the peak of their own respective crafts.
Grandey’s Place offers our visitors the opportunity to experience first-hand the secret world of true British craftsmanship and to consider commissioning beautiful, handmade pieces. In addition, Grandey’s Place invites visitors to attend practical courses led by some of our nation’s finest practitioners. Such experiences reveal the beauty and mystery of heritage crafts that are, unfortunately, at risk of slowly slipping out of our collective consciousness.
